I was invited back to CMU to be the sound designer for Company by Stephen Sondheim. I utilized QLab 5’s spatial audio features to create dynamic scene transitions featuring the sounds of New York City’s many modes of transportation: the subway, the train, taxis, pedestrians, cyclists, and even folks taking the ferry. Our version of Company featured many songs that are usually cut, including the number “Tick Tock”, which relies on prerecorded conversations between the couples. These lines were triggered individually on beat in coordination with stage management, the sound operator, and the music director. Because our production had two actors playing Bobby, there were two different QLab files for each actor.
